"I went in to get my first tattoo and I emphasized three separate times that I wanted the tattoo to not be dark and that I didn’t want a lot of shading. The artist made my tattoo super dark and in one place it’s completely black. I couldn’t see the tattoo as I was getting it so I couldn’t stop him and ask for it to be lighter. At the beginning he only showed me the outline so that’s what I thought I was getting. He did not show me how much shading he was going to do and the shading done is not in a style I like. Be VERY clear with what you want. Overall it’s still an okay ish tattoo, it’s not completely botched but it’s definitely not what I wanted."
